Program Note

ordo, ordinis
(n.) a row, order/rank, succession, series, or class

In deference to the music of Luciano Berio and Steven Stucky, which the composer studied during 2009, Ordinis is the result of a continued fascination with the concept of isorhythm. A compositional technique that rotates a fixed order of pitches within a repeated rhythmic pattern, isorhythm has been used in a variety of musical compositions throughout the centuries. As this particular work unfolds, the established isorhythmic process gradually deteriorates, and the music becomes fixated upon a relatively rapid, periodic pulse.
