Amalgamation (2010)
alto saxophone and piano
Program Note
Written for Brian Kauth during the summer of 2010, Amalgamation requires both technical dexterity and expressive flexibility from each performer, as they are asked to interpret and convey a variety of musical soundscapes to the listening audience. By definition, an amalgamation is the joining of discrete materials into a single form. The interplay between performers becomes crucial to establishing sonic relationships that stretch beyond individual sections of music. This continuous interaction, and exchange of information, helps to unite the contrasting ideas within this work.
